Here are some snippets from Sister Faggs Email:
Here we GOOOOO the first of many emails.
You dont know how long i have waited to be able to tell you everything that has been going on. Here at the MTC the days feel like weeks and the week feels like days. The past week has probably been one of the hardest weeks of my life but yet one of the most amazing weeks too.
So i turned up at the MTC - UTAH is GORGEOUS, the mountains are too die for.... anyway... so i turned up and they took me to my room and then took me straight to a classroom for the newbies, and i walked in and the teacher says to us "ok in 5 minutes we have some investigators coming in and you are going to teach them"......!!!!! i think i might of died in that short moment. MY heart was absolutely going crazy, BUT me and my companion made a plan to teach the lady about the restoration of the Gospel and as soon as we met her and heard her story and her worries we did not use our plan. She needed to hear about the plan of Salvation. She had recently lost her son in an accident and was worried that he would be in 'hell' -- i felt prompted by the spirit to tell my story about how our family coped with loosing Emily. The spirit was so strong, and we all started to cry. I told her the peace and comfort that comes from knowing that they are in a better, safer, happier place than what we are in now. It was amazing.,
My companion is Sister Mcclellan and she is so great, She is such a strength to me. We work very well together. The 2nd day of the MTC we get to our class and the teacher ONLY SPEAKS FRENCH. NO ENGLISH. it was so hard, I couldn't understand anything and then we get the news that tomorrow we are teaching an investigator IN THE FRENCH LANGUAGE. AAAAAHHH!! i must of sucked up about a thousand tears that day. But i can proudly say it went very well. We had our 3rd lesson with our investigator yesterday and i was able to bear my testimony of the book of Mormon in FRENCH with NO notes. proud moment right there.....sorry i shouldn't be proud. I'm a missionary. ;) Today on P-Day we were able to go to the Provo Temple, it was such an amazing experience.
I am learning something new each and every single day and i am loving it. I know the road ahead has a whole load of bumps and holes and hills in it but i know it will all be worth it. Yesterday the missionaries going to FIJI were leaving for the mission field and they sang to us in Fijiian and the spirit was SO strong. It was amazing and i will never forget it. So theres a song in the french hymnbook that is only a french hymn and me and my companion are determined to learn it. We will do it.
I cant believe by the end of one week, i can pray and testify in french. Its a miracle :)
Oh yeah me and my companion have been called as the sister training leaders to our zone. So we are sister training leaders to sisters who have been here for like 9 weeks...scary stuff but a great learning experience.
What i have learn't most from teaching and missionary work is to focus on our purpose which is to bring others unto christ. We shouldnt teach a lesson, just to tick it off the sheet "ok yep we taught that, thats done" but to teach by the language of the Spirit and to make sure they know why you are there and what our purpose as missionaries is. It is great how much i have learn't regarding an investigators needs. The whole lesson plan can change because you feel the investigator needs to be taught a different principle etc.
On sunday we have to prepare talks in the french language, and our branch presidency can call on anyone at the pulpit, you dont know who they are going to pick. Its so scary! haha! So wish me luck!
